At first glance, the Restaurant Week menus brought tears of boredom to my eyes. Not because of anything that was or wasn’t on the menus. It was the list of restaurants. There’s so much going on in Richmond’s restaurant scene, but looking at this tired list of mostly mediocre Richmond Restaurant Group usual suspects, you wouldn’t know that there’s a renaissance afoot. But, the drama was really last year. This year was personal. Things were getting tense around the house. We desperately needed a date night, and Karen wanted to be part of the prix fixe parade. I can go along with that.
A second look at the list of restaurants brought me to Amour Wine Bistro. I hadn’t been in since they replaced Cajun Bangkok. But, I am a little curious about French wine (a hobby that’s lifelong, from what I hear). Maybe all of the new places pushing restaurants like Amour down in my list is something I need to correct. And, French food usually comes with service that I handle about as gracefully as Jerry Lewis. So, this could be fun. Then, Karen and I looked at the menu and we knew we had to go to Amour. To show you what I mean, here’s how we each ordered. Decide for yourself who had the better meal or how you’d order if you wind up there this week.
Could this soup be prettier? (more…)
